History is made at the Hearthstone Global Finals at BlizzCon

Hearthstone Grandmasters Global Finals 2019

Liooon

Hearthstone had an exciting BlizzCon as they boasted the first woman to win a BlizzCon final, ever. Li “Liooon” Xiaomeng is a Chinese Hearthstone pro for Valiant Knighthood and although her victory wasn’t exactly unexpected, it was still monumental. On the first of November eight Hearthstone players participated in the two group Groupe Stage, played in Standard Conquest format. The top two players from each group advanced to the Playoffs where they would then compete for their share of the $500,000 prize pool.

Group Stage

Group A consisted of Leaoh, Surrender, PNC and Cassie. The four were all pretty evenly matched but in the end Leaoh and Casie made it out as the respective 1st and 2nd place players with Surrender unable to find his groove and PNC taking 4th.

Group B was prettyt competitive as well with the likes of bloodyface, Fenomeno, tom60229, and our Champion in Liooon. Liooon came out in first with bloody face following suit. Fen and tom were unfortunately knocked out . Fenomeno beat bloodyface in their initial match but he ultimately fell in the Decider to the same opponent.

Playoffs

Liooon and bloodyface managed to advance to the finals but not without some serious bumps in the road, whether it was RNG or mistakes, Liooon won 3-2 against Casie while bloodyface managed to 3-2 Leaoh.

In our Finals match our two Group B players faced each other again, but Liooon swiftly dismantled bloodyface in a quick 3-0 fashion, and thus made history while also picking up a sweet $200,000 for herself. Props to Liooon and Valiant Knighthood for this achievement on its own, as well as for boasting the first ever woman champion in BlizzCon history.
