#HSH Week 8: Group D Preview
The last group of #HomeSweetHomes final week is upon us and as always we preview the teams. AGF Esport, Complexity Gaming, Hard Legion ...
The first group in #HomeSweetHome concluded yesterday, which means two teams have been knocked out, while two others have moved forward to the playoff stage to fight for the $40,000 awarded weekly in the tournament. #HomeSweetHome is set to run for 8 straight weeks before it culminates in the grand finals. If you want to read more about the tournament you can check our event page. We started of #HomeSweetHome with a real bang when SMASH managed to overcome one of the favorites for the trophy. Joakim “disco doplan” Gidetun was the main reason for the underdogs success as he ended the game with a score of 27-10 and the swede mostly known for his venture in fnatic, truly shined to secure a winners match spot for SMASH. In the second opener of the group BIG came in as a clear favorite, and they managed to live up to the expectations. If Syman wanted to throw a curveball at BIG by getting the game to Vertigo, it sure failed as BIG closed the game out without any issues and Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz looked as good as in his prime with his 30 kills. SMASH might have been the big upset in the opener games, but when given the opportunity to secure a playoff spot against BIG it all imploded. TabseN had a stand out performance together with Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş and BIG didnt give SMASH any chance at all - it was SMASH turn to get completely and utterly smashed. In the losers match Spirit was looking to prove themselves as the opener game was a massive disappointment. The start could have been better - Spirit lost their own map pick of Train. However tides would turn and Spirit finally entered the server and managed to pick up both Overpass and Mirage to secure their spot in the decider game for a playoff spot. The CIS squad with well known names such as Nikolay ”mir” Bityukov, Viktor “somedieyoung” Orudjev and Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov were massive favorites before the game and after quite the scare they finally tied it together and maybe this was what the team needed to lift the spirits for the coming decider game. Team Spirit - SMASH 2-1 (4-16,16-5,16-5) In the opener of #HomeSweetHome SMASH showed Spirit whos boss on Inferno by winning 16-5. Surprisingly Spirit let SMASH pick it up in this life and death game once again. If they thought they got SMASH figured out - they were wrong, as the score line was even more dire this time around, 4-16. The story of this game would go on to do a complete 180 as Spirit came back with a statement. Both Nuke and Mirage was secured with 16-5 respectively and there was not much of a discussion left - SMASH delivered punches in group A on Inferno, but at the end of it all they smashed themselves out of this one. BIG and Team Spirit has secured their playoff spot for week one of #HomeSweetHome. A much expected result, but as easy as BIG made it look, as hard was this one for Spirit, who had to dig themselves up of a trench to get to this spot. Now, a rest awaits the two teams until the quarterfinals begin on Saturday. Their opponents are still to be decided as the rest of the groups will be played out one each day, but it's fair to assume both of these teams are strong enough to be considered as potential finalists in #HomeSweetHome.
